Carol Thatcher is a journalist known for being the daughter of former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

Who is Carol Thatcher?

Carol Thatcher is an English author, journalist, and media personality who relocated to Australia in 1977 and started working at the Sydney Morning Herald as a journalist.

Thatcher began her career as a TV reporter after working for a few years in the newspaper. She later returned to the United Kingdom, working for the BBC and LBC.

In 1983, Thatcher published her book, 'Diary of an Election: with Margaret Thatcher on the campaign trail.' Three years later, she released her first best-selling book, 'Lloyd on Lloyd,' a collaboration with tennis player Chris Evert Lloyd.

Besides, Thatcher won the fifth season of the reality show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2005. But, despite winning the show, her television career was cut short in 2009 after making racist comments about a tennis player on the BBC's The One Show.

Age and Early Bio

Carol Thatcher was born on 15 August 1953 in England to Denis and Margaret Thatcher. She graduated from University College London with a law degree. Thatcher has a twin brother named Mark.

However, Mark chose a different path than Thatcher's. He began his career in the business and relocated to the United States, where he met and married Diane Burgdorf, his first wife. The couple also had two children together. Mark married his second wife, Sarah Jane Russell, in 2008, after meeting her in Gibraltar.

Margaret Thatcher

Margaret Hilda Roberts is the mother of Carol. She was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England, on 13 October 1925, to Alfred and Beatrice Roberts.

Margaret went to a local public school and won a place at Oxford's Somerville College. She studied chemistry from 1943 to 1947.

In 1946, Margaret was elected president of the Oxford Conservative Student Association. Thatcher was elected to the House of Commons as a Member of Parliament for Finchley in 1959. By 1961, she had been promoted to a junior officer in Prime Minister Harold Macmillan's administration.

In 1979, Margaret became the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and was named the country's first female leader. She operated as Prime Minister for around 12 years until 1990. Margaret then remained a major political figure after 1990 and published two best-selling biographies, 'The Path to Power' (1995) and 'The Downing Street Years' (1993).

Unfortunately, Margaret died of a stroke in 2013 at 87 at the Ritz Hotel in London. Mark was in Barbados when he learned about the news and returned to the UK to attend her funeral as chief mourner. Her net worth was estimated to be around $10 million at the time of her death, according to celebrity net worth. 

'The Crown'

Carol appears in Season 4 of The Crown, a Netflix series that follows the monarchy from 1979 to 1990. The writer of the series, Peter Morgan, used artistic license to illustrate the Thatcher family dynamics.

The Crown comprises four seasons, and the fourth season chronicles the rise of Margaret Thatcher, the conservative British prime minister who served from 1979 to 1990. The episode 'Favourites' of the same season shows how Mark Thatcher, twin of Carol, went missing during a motor rally in 1982.

Margaret's relationship with her son and daughter is also illustrated, as is Carol's resentment of Mark being the favorite child. Unfortunately, sibling rivalry only got worse over time. Mark also disagreed with Carol's decision to auction off some of their mother's belongings after her death.

There is not much information about Thatcher's present life. However, she had a relationship with Jonathan Aitken, a former Conservative MP, which ended in 1979. She now lives with Marco Grass, a ski instructor, in Switzerland.
