At a young age, Davies represented Australia in the international rugby competition. At 19, he went to play rugby professionally in France and England for three years. Later, he moved to the United States and enrolled at Colorado State University-Pueblo, Pueblo, Colorado. While at the university, he also played for the university’s football team. He initially served the university’s football team without being recruited, but he eventually made his way to become team captain. He played on the defensive line, scoring 29 tackles and five sacks in his senior year. Davies also made a good impression in the university because of his outstanding performance. CSU-Pueblo coach John Wristen once called Davies “a tremendous athlete who has a great upside to him.”

At 26, Davies received a tryout invitation from The New England Patriots for Patriots Rookie Minicamp. Davies’ agent Jack Bechta told ESPN that Davies flew himself to Dallas a day before the NFL draft on an impulse and showed up unannounced at the Cowboys’ facility in hopes of earning a tryout. But things didn’t work in the NFL as Davies hoped when no team signed him.
