In 1996, Hallisay graduated from Gonzaga College High School, and in 2000, he graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. After graduation, he went to work on Wall Street for some time and eventually moved to Los Angeles, California.

In 2006, Hallisay appeared in the crime drama television movie, AKA. The same year, Hallisay made his feature film debut in the movie, Bottoms Up where he played the character of Hayden Field.
