Boris Sanchez is a Washington, DC-based CNN anchor. He has been co-anchoring the CNN morning show New Day Weekend, alongside Christi Paul, since April 2021. 

Before joining CNN, Sanchez worked as an anchor and reporter at FOX 31 in Denver, Colorado, from August 2012 to May 2015. He spent his previous two years as a weekend anchor and reporter at ABC affiliate KRCR-TV in Redding, California. Before starting his professional journalism career, he interned at NBC affiliate WTVJ in Miami, Florida. 

Sanchez graduated with a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism and International Relations from Syracuse University in 2009. Before that, he earned an A.A. degree in Journalism from Miami Dade College in 2006.

Before joining New Day Weekend, Sanchez spent nearly four years as a CNN White House correspondent, covering President Donald Trump and his administration. His coverage included major policy decisions, key staff departures, and visits by world leaders.

Sanchez joined CNN in June 2015 as a national correspondent based in New York City. As a CNN national correspondent, he reported numerous breaking news events. 

His coverage of the violent unrest and riots following the fatal shooting of African-American man, Keith Lemont Scott, by police in 2016 in Charlotte, North Carolina, helped CNN earn an 'Edward R. Murrow Award.'

Heritage and Parents

Sanchez was born in Havana, Cuba, on 15 November 1985. According to his Instagram, Jose Sanchez and Marlen Uranga Reyes are his parents. He has one older sister named Leslie.

Though Sanchez currently holds American nationality, he has not disregarded his Cuban heritage. He has occasionally made Instagram posts about his grandparents.

For instance, in an Instagram post dated 24 September 2015, Sanchez revealed that his grandfather fought for the Cuban revolution in the late 1950s. Posting a throwback picture of his father's childhood picture with his grandparents, he captioned, "Throwback: Nena, Cheo, and my father. Varadero Beach, c. 1956. Two years later, abuelo went into hiding in the mountains; Off to fight a revolution."

In another Instagram post dated 27 November 2016, Sanchez revealed that his grandfather was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his anti-columnist activities.

Sanchez then mentioned that his mother waved his grandmother's flag proudly. Describing the moment, he wrote, "My parents joined me outside Cafe Versailles last night; my mom waving my abuela's flag proudly -- fulfilling a promise -- and watching me fulfill a dream that may have been impossible had she and my father not sacrificed everything to flee Cuba. I struggle for words to describe what it meant to see their smiling faces, among so many others. Surreal. Overwhelming. A night to remember."
