Stewart was married to John Robert Cuti, a lawyer, and former lead guitarist for The Inflatables. The pair exchanged wedding vows on 26 September 1997 in a courthouse. The wedding lunch was held at Jean Georges in Central Park West, which Martha had planned for exclusive cakes and flowers in the ImClone stock trading cases.
Cuti worked as a trial lawyer alongside Martha Stewart's lead attorney, Robert Morviase. Stewart and Cuti split up before Martha was indicted in June 2003 but did not divorce until the trial ended in mid-2004.
