She attended Bedford North Lawrence High School and completed it in 2002. In 2006, she graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism. She was also a Dick Yoakam Broadcast Journalism Scholar. Hasnie returned the favor by offering a scholarship to an Indiana University journalism student in 2010.
While still in school, Hasnie interned as an on-air reporter at WICS-TV in Springfield, Illinois, WTHR-TV in Indianapolis, and GEO-TV in Pakistan. Upon graduating from high school, Hasnie was accepted as an investigative reporter and fill-in anchor at WANE-TV in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
