Early Life and Education
Stephanie Buttermore was born on 25 February 1990 to a Thai mother and Canadian father. She grew up in Florida, the United States. She has a sister named Julie.
After completing her high school education, Buttermore studied Bachelor of Science in Micro/Molecular Biology at the University of Central Florida. She then studied at the University of South Florida and graduated with two degrees in Master of Science in Medical Sciences such as Women's Health and Pathology & Cell Biology. She went on to earn her Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Sciences specializing in Pathology & Cell Biology from the same University. For her doctoral research, Buttermore focused on the molecular mechanisms that drive the progression of ovarian cancer (OC).
About her doctoral research, she explained, "Through my work, I discovered that a protein called Receptor for Hyaluronan Mediated Motility (RHAMM) was up regulated in OC cell lines, OC tissue and OC patient urine. I demonstrated that RHAMM could be used in conjunction with other screening modalities as a viable early detection urinary screening marker (patent)."
Career
While she was still involved in Ph.D. research work and experiments on ovarian cancer, Buttermore found passion in sharing her knowledge on fitness combined with the scientific basis of nutrition and physical training. She learned the fundamentals of exercise science after rigorous research and took social media platforms to share her knowledge with the world.
Referring to her expertise in exercise science, she said, "I've taken my many years of experience reading and writing scientific literature to understanding the fundamentals of exercise science."
On 24 November 2014, Buttermore launched her self-titled YouTube channel and started uploading videos regularly from 2017. She uploaded her first video titled 'Day in the Life of a PhD (Cancer Research) | My Glute Training' on 4 February 2017. Since then, Buttermore has been creating and uploading educational videos related to fitness, nutrition, training, beauty, lifestyle, and food challenges, combined with scientific principles.
In addition to the science-based workout, healthy eating tips, and lifestyle videos, Buttermore has also made 'cheat day' videos in certain months of gaps. Nevertheless, she gradually started experiencing the side effects of a regular diet and intense fitness training to maintain her lean figure. She also started experiencing extreme hunger. Then, Buttermore decided to go on an 'ALL IN' journey in December 2019 to address her chronic hunger issue and gain weight. During the first month of her 'ALL IN' journey, she devoured 5,000 calories every day for a month and gained 13 pounds of weight. She continued her 'ALL IN' journey and shared how her new strategy changed her eating habit, physique, training, and overall life.
During the journey, Buttermore initially struggled to accept herself with increased weight, but she gradually gained confidence in herself. "Since starting this journey, loving myself with added weight has really been a struggle…but as time goes on, I'm gaining more confidence in my own skin and have a much more positive outlook on my self image," she shared on one of her Instagram posts.
In another post on Instagram, Buttermore shared how happy she was for choosing the journey. She wrote, "I feel like I don't talk enough about the benefits of my All In journey relative to how profound it was to my life (which was immeasurable). I can say with all of my heart that it was the best decision I ever made because quite honestly, everything is just better now."
Later, she also figured out intuitive eating and started sharing her intuitive eating tips.
