Finding Biological Family
Dorsey was born on 2 May 1991. In a Facebook post dated 8 November 2020, Dorsey shared that she grew up knowing that she was adopted and she would get an opportunity to meet her biological mother when she turned 18 years old.
She said she wasn't ready to search for her birth mom when the time came. However, she later became interested in learning about her birth mother at age 21 and her mother, Jan, helped her search.
Unfortunately, an obituary from the internet described that her biological mother had passed away a year earlier, leaving behind her older half-brother and a sister. She said she didn't feel right reaching out to her half-siblings at the time.
While sitting in quarantine in 2020, Dorsey decided to sign up with a biotechnology company called 23andme which extracts DNA from a saliva sample and generates reports relating to the ancestry. The results showed the names of her half-brother and half-sister with the option of reaching out.
Her half-sister, Emma, immediately reached out to her, stating that "she had been searching for Ella for years and she had also done the test a year before in hopes of finding Ella."
In November 2020, Emma and her brother, Noah, came to Atlanta to meet Ella and her mother and spent quality time with each other.
